IRCC announces increase in provincial immigration allocation of Nova Scotia
The IRCC has announced that the provincial immigration
allocation to Nova Scotia has been boosted by a whopping 40.8 percent. The
province will now be allowed to welcome 5,430 immigrants, a massive increase
from its previous allocation of 3,857 last year.
Nova Scotia can admit 1,173 more immigrants through
the AIP, a massive 75 percent increase than last year. The province can also
allow 400 more immigrants through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program. This
accounts for almost 17 percent increase since last year.
Quote by Nova Scotia Immigration Minister Jill Balser:
“Population growth is vital to our economic success.
We have been preparing for growth, working with employers, communities, and
settlement organizations to get ready for more people to call Nova Scotia
home. Nova Scotia is a special place and we are excited that more and more
people see a future for themselves and their families here”
In 2021 the province welcomed 9,045 new permanent
residents. Immigration helped the
province surpass 1 million people in population
figures. The top countries that newcomers arrived from are India, China, the
Philippines, and the UK. The province is
credited with having the highest retention rate for
any Atlantic Canadian provinces at
71%.
Nova Scotia immigration also announced a $2.5 million
marketing campaign to attract
immigrants and Canadians living in other provinces to
settle down in Nova Scotia. This
campaign aims to encourage more people to move to the
Atlantic Canadian province
and fix serious labor shortages.
Nova Scotia welcomed new immigrants this year despite
the border and travel restrictions, many of them who moved here from other
provinces.
