Third plane carrying 319 Ukrainian refugees arrives in Halifax
Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced that the third plane under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel, carrying 306 Ukrainian refugees has arrived at Halifax’s Stanfield International Airport.
Quote by Immigration Minister Sean Fraser:
“We’ll continue to provide support for those fleeing
Putin’s war before and after they arrive in Canada and do everything, we can to
make them feel at home. Canada is doing everything it can to support Ukrainians
before and after they arrive in Canada”
“Canada is doing everything it can to support
Ukrainians before and after they arrive in Canada. Millions of Ukrainians have
been displaced and forced to flee their homes, and these charter flights will
help make sure that those who want to come to Canada have the support they
need. We’ll continue to work with provinces and territories, settlement
organizations, and NGOs to make sure Ukrainians feel at home in their new
communities.”
Quote by Karina Gould, Minister of Families, Children
and Social Development:
“As Canada welcomes individuals seeking safe haven
from the war in Ukraine, the government of Canada stands ready to support them
and provide them with the resources to take care of themselves and their
families. Service Canada will help ensure that services are delivered in a
secure and timely way.”
The Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel
program started accepting applications back in March and enables Canadian
employers to include jobs for Ukrainians in the country’s online job bank.
Under this program, the refugees can stay in Canada
for up to 36 months and will be
eligible for free open work/study permits. Any
Ukrainian student, worker, or visitor who
is already in Canada on a temporary basis can also
apply to extend their stay.
If any of these displaced refugees do not have a place
to stay, the IRCC is also providing up to 14 nights of accommodation for
them.
Canadians can contribute to the relief measures by
donating their flight points to help cover the cost of flights for Ukrainian
refugees.
