New Brunswick pauses applications for the Provincial Nominee Program
The province of New Brunswick has announced that it
will be pausing applications to the provincial Express Entry stream until it
can reduce the backlog due to an unprecedented surge in applications.
Quote by Immigration Minister Arlene Dunn:
“The province has seen exponential population growth
over the last year and we are happy to see this continue in unprecedented
applications to our programming. If it was allowed to continue on its current
track, the large demand on our current programming would jeopardize access to
immigration for certain sectors or client types when it is required, such as
internationally-educated nurses or international students who are currently in
New Brunswick and graduating later this year”
In the first quarter of 2022, the provincial PNP
welcomed 700 new permanent residents, among which 525 immigrants came in
through the AIP.
Last year the province welcomed 5,320 new permanent
residents and in the first quarter of this year, it welcomed almost 1,955 new
permanent residents. It is projected that the province will welcome over 7,820
new permanent residents this year if the surge in applications continues.
This announcement comes after the province has
reportedly received over 3,000 applications for this program. However, only the
New Brunswick PNP has been paused but the province continues accepting
applications for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, the Skilled Worker
stream, and Atlantic Immigration Program.
